Questions and answers about Performance Air Intakes
Q: What is the difference between a Cold Air Intake and a Short Ram Intake?
A: A Cold air intake places the air filter into a stream of cold air or away from the under hood heat that is generated by an engine. Colder air is denser air and denser air means more power. A Short ram intake is designed to increase the air that the engine can inhale but you are taking hot air from under the hood of your car and that can cost power when compared to the cold air intake.
Q: How much Horsepower will I gain if I add a Performance Intake?
A: Manufactures state that you should gain 5-10 HP with the addition of a Performance Intake.
Q: How does a Performance Air Intake add the extra power?
A: When you compare a Cold Air Intake or Performance Intake to your factory installed air box and intake tube you can see that the vehicle manufacture designed the intake to meet several requirement. The two most important is intake noise and space requirements. With a performance intake you eliminate the noise baffles that cause air flow restrictions in the factory intake.
Q: I hear that my fuel mileage will improve with a performance intake. Is this true?
A: Yes. Most drivers will see a 1-3 mpg improvement over the factory intake. Be warned though, you will love the new sound that your engine makes when you step on it so until you get that out of your system your mileage may decrease.
Q: Are Performance Intakes street legal?
A: Yes. All of the intakes that we sell have CARB certification.
AEM Cold Air Induction systems deliver maximum performance gains through all aluminum, mandrel bent tubing, tuned in both length and diameter. All systems are finished in a Zirconia based powder coating to reduce heat penetration which can not be achieved with other finishes. The AEM Cold Air Intake system has been known to provide most applications with a substantial horsepower increase throughout the bandwith.
AIRAID® INTAKE SYSTEMS are specifically designed to take full advantage of today's vehicle technology. Our performance success story is really quite simple - we use the latest dyno-proven techniques and innovative designs to improve upon intake system efficiency. Therefore, the greater the efficiency level, the greater the horsepower output!
