Auto Meter Ultimate Playback Tachometers are designed for serious drag racing purposes and this technology is patented under U.S. Patent # 5,982,168. On drag race versions, during Playback, the Ultimate Playback tach can automatically freeze pointer and LED clock at the high and low RPM points for each shifts. This allows time to note the exact shift points and time between shifts. The time difference between the "Peak" and "Valley" will show if there is slippage in the clutch or transmission.
