Installing a underbody neon or LED neon kit is a fairly simple procedure. It is a great way to enhance the look and feel of your vehicle. Accent it with a LED Neon kit or Neon LED Rope Lighting. Our LED kits all come with control units which allow you to change the pattern and speed of the neon tubes. From blue to red, green to yellow, we have the style you desire. Time for this installation will run around 2 hours. Tools needed will be a drill and bit, floor jack and jack stands, wire ties, electrical tape and a pair of wire splices.
Preperation and Location
Begin by raising the vehicle on jack stands, ebrake set, to a comfortable height. Make sure there is enough room under the vehicle for you to work comfortably. Your kit contains two 4 foot tubes and two 3 foot tubes. The longer neon bulbs go on the sides and the shorter ones front and back. Once the vehicle is lifted, test fit the tubes under the vehicle. You will want to find a spot which will not receive extreme amounts of heat. Keep the neon tubes clear of exhaust products. Mount the tubes in a flat area where they will not be overly subject to rocks, curbs or speed bumps. Once you find a proper spot, you can mount the tubes.
Mounting the Tubes
All under car neon kits come with clamps, wiring, transformer and a switch. Take the black circular clamps and place them around the neon tube you are installing. You can start at whichever corner you wish. Place the neon tube where you have found suitable and drill your pilot holes. Be sure not to drill through the floor! Find a stable solid surface to mount these neon tubes to. Once the pilot holes are drilled, fasten the screws provided into the drilled hole. Do this for each clamp on the tube. Now do this for each light tube on the vehicle. Once the tubes are mounted, you must run the wiring.
Wiring The Neons
For the underbody neon kit, you will have 2 wires coming from each bulb; red and black. Your kit also came with a transformer block; 8 ports on one side and 2 on the other. The 8 ports are labeled and colored (+) for Red and (-) for Black. From the neon tubes, connect the Red and Black wires one to a slot on the transformer block. The red wires should go into the Red (+) ports. The black wires should go into the Black (-) ports. Now there should only be 2 ports left on the opposite of the transformer block. Connect the Black (-) lead to Chassis Ground (negative battery terminal). Now connect a wire from the Red (+) port and run it to one of the 2 pins on the included switch. Now from the switch, connect the other pin on the switch to 12volts constant (positive battery terminal). Be sure to connect the fused side of the wire towards the battery, not the neon kits. That should be it. When the switch is flipped, the neons will glow.
For our undercar LED neon kits, the wiring is generally plug and play. The underbody LED neon's come with the tubes, transformer block, control module and lighted switch. Once you have the tubes mounted, locate a good place which is free of moisture to mount the transformer and control module. The wire from the LED tube has a plug on it which plugs directly into one of the 8 ports on the transformer. Since you have 4 bulbs you will only use 4 of the 8 ports. Connect each tube to one of the ports simply by plugging it in. Once complete, plug the multi-colored ribbon cable into the other end of the transformer. Run that cable to the control module, the one with all the buttons. One this is connected, you will be left with 2 wires on the opposite side of the module; one red one black. Connect the black wire to chassis ground (negative battery cable). Connect the red wire to 12 volts constant (positive battery cable).
Your installation is now complete. You should be able to turn the switch one and off and the lights should glow in all corners. With the led neon kits, use the control module to turn the lights on and off as well as controlling the motion.
